Schlumpf ESH ToolingOne of the most difficult and hazardous jobs in the paper, film & foil converting industry is handling heavy expanding shafts and reel spools. Bending over and twisting one's back as a shaft is inserted or extracted from a roll commonly results in costly and painful back injuries.

Schlumpf Electric Shaft Handling MachineESH electric shaft handling machines can completely eliminate the risk of handling shafts. The ESH utilizes a powerful electrically actuated clamp to grip one end of the shaft and hold it securely, while the operator simply pushes and pulls the machine to insert or extract the shaft while holding the ESH’s ergonomic handlebar. Soft anvils support the underside of the shaft body and journal while clamped in the tooling. Multiple shaft sizes can be accommodated by changing anvils (in seconds with no tools). The ESH's tooling is pivot mounted to allow the shaft to follow the path of least resistance while inserted or extracted. The investment in an ESH can be returned quickly considering the high cost of medical care and rehabilitation of workers with back injuries.
